Conspire

Conspiracy! yep, we heard of things like this in history.. but what i am going to blog about is not about history, but conspiracy in the newest set shadowmoor in my favorite card game - Magic: the gathering. Yes, I am back in business!

I will feature this card for its conspire ability - not to mention i personally like black-blue hehe. For a hybrid cost of 1, this card will let you mill 4 cards from your opponent's library. Conspire ability is pretty simple and it is divided into 2 parts. the 1st part is the ADDITION to the cost which is to tap two untapped creatures you control that share a color with the spell with conspire - in this case, black or blue. And you can only pay this once per spell. the 2nd part of the ability is the trigger that copies the spell as you play it. You can choose a new target for the copy.

So, the mill 4 of memory sluice can make it mill 8 if you conspire 2 creatures that you have in play. And just a crazy idea.. imagine having these creatures in play.. you will be milling your opponent's deck in no time!.. tap the grimoires for conspire! hehe

Wither

Am i going to quit anyway?.. I can't seem to have the time anymore to play Paper magic:the Gathering cards.. i may have to go and play online?.. what do you think?.. My chances are withering away from me and I am slowly getting tired of the game.

i do not like the meta of the game right now. Although I am happy that the idea of hybrid colors were returned in shadowmoor, it is surely nothing compared to y favorite Block ever, Ravnica - where the concept of hybrid mana was first introduced. I played Dimir during that time and Mill was my favorite strategy. Now, Black-Blue is for merfolks or the malignant merrows of shadowmoor - but they are just a shoade, in terms of milling ability, discard ability, and over all attacking capability of the old house Dimir.

One thing that I liked though in the expansion is the Wither ability. Which is activated when a creature with wither deals combat damage to a creature. Instead of regular damage, a creature with wither deals damage in the form of -1/-1 counters on the defending creature.. Sounds very promising and very insane!!!

but still.. i hope to find some spark here.. and not let my love for this game wither away..

My Favorite Card!!

I am a black player. For the many years that I played magic: the gathering, I have always been black, always been evil, always been tormenting the mind of my opponent. I did not want to win through stompy creatures of combat. i wanted my opponents to think, and to think.. Up to the point of realizing there's nothing more to think about but the acceptance of defeat..

I woke up with these thoughts in my mind. For so long I have been playing black. And I cannot deny the truth in what the voice in my head had said. this is how i wanted winning to be. i am just a casual player and so i did not necessarily long to achieve a certain card.. But the darkness in the card is pulling me. yes, I like the art.. i like tha ablity.. I already have three, and in a matter of months I am going to have four.. i have completed 20 tournaments and so my waiting days are over.. and all will be damned!!! *evil laugh*.. hehehe

Magic101 : How to return to MTG?

What can you do to return to playing Magic:the gathering after being inactive for some time?.. Well, we know that we are all busy and we may have our own reasons why we have to stop playing. But in case your schedule becomes loose again and decides to go back playing, these are my ideas on how to..

Go Extended/Modern!
well, you can always play extended or modern tournaments wherein you may use the cards from where you are still active in playing Magic.

Catch-up in Standard
Well, the problem you will encounter is how to build a competitive deck for standard. Since standard tournaments only use cards that are around for the last 2 years only. Or the recent two blocks are valid for Standard play. These are my suggestions to be able to get cards that you need.

1. Buy a booster box/booster packs.. This is important when you want to get a wide variety of cards in a specific expansion from commons, uncommons, and rares.. this can virtually give you every card in the expansion.

2. Make a deck list and buy the specific cards you want. In this strategy, you are being selective in your cards. One advantage of this is that you surely get what you need and what you want. However, you will not be able to get the other cool cards in the expansion..

Hope I gave you guys some ideas..

Makeshift My Day..

Just what makes your day better than an instant creature?.. yes, strategically, you have different uses for this kind of spell.. What I like about this card is that it uses only one black mana for a reanimator. that 3B.. regular standard reanimators cost 2BB..that makes the other ones built for decks with lots of black mana in it.. but for Makeshift, you can add it in black-splashed deck. Moving on, it can be used in instant-speed, you can play it during an opponent's turn or at end of turn.. meaning, it is good for defensive purposes, such as an instant blocker during your opponents combat phase or, if used at the end of turn of an opponent, your mannequinned creature will be able to attack during your turn..

you can use this with creatures that have "comes into play abilities" such as mulldrifter that makes you draw 2 cards.. or my favorite.. SHRIEKMAW..

imagine this scenario, 2 kithkins (white) are attacking you, you have no creatures in play and your opponent thinks he will win the game and attacks with hopes of victory.. to his surprise, you cast makeshift mannequin and targets shriekmaw in your graveyard.. shriekmaw comes into play destroying one kithkin (1 to go).. and blocks the remaining creature!.. walahhhh!.. Stealing out the victory from your opponent!..
