M13 Gameday : Brought home the Playmat with UW Delver

Share:

Although M13 gameday was more than a week ago, due to the busy schedule, I wasn't able to post some updates. After proper evaluation of the metagame in our local shop, I decided to tweak the deck list that I brought the other week. Now with Seachrome Coasts instead of plains, turn 1 became more consistent as each land except for Moorland Haunts enable you to play a blue spell on turn 1. Key differences in the main deck include Invisible Stalkers. While Invisible stalkers are not included in current Delver decks, since I am using Equipments such as Swoard of War and Peace and Runechanter's Pike, invisible stalkers can pretty much win you games if dropped at the right time. The main changes in the sideboard are basically the addition of Mental Misstep. This is a very good card, so good that it was banned even in legacy. But for standard, I side these in because, for me, they are very good against Green as it can counter one-mana elves (ramp elves like Llanowar Elves and Arbor Elf) and it can also counter Rancor - all of which can give you headaches later on if not dealt with.

I came home with the M13 GameDay Nicol Bolas Playmat at the end of the day with a 5-0 standings. The deck indeed performed very well as rounds were swept 2-0  except for the championship round where I won 2-1 in a thriller. Without further delay, the new deck list is as follows:

Aside from the playmat, I also got to win the following 2 cool Mythic and rare cards: Ajani, Caller of the Pride and Sunpetal Grove.

It was a very great day for me. Not only because of the Playmat and the Ajani but also for the experience of winning my first Gameday Event. Tournaments are always good for me since I can meet my friends who also play magic at the shop, I met new players at the shop, and you get to realize misplays and find ways to avoid them in the future. After the last round, my finals opponent Carlo Flores, even pointed out some misplays that I did during the match and what could have I done to make my plays more efficient. Even with more than 15 years of playing Magic, I am still a student of the game and I welcome ideas that make me a better player. Experiences like this inspire you to be better in things that you do, may it be your hobby and other aspects of your life. Thanks for the read. On the FNM after the game day, with the same deck list, I finished second (4-1) in the FNM, when I introduced a card that may be promising for delver decks in the future when the Scars of Mirrodin block cycles out - Talrand, the Sky Summoner. Check my future posts for the list.
