Standard U/R Destructive Force

Hi guys! I am actually planning to put up a section in my blog for my home-brewed deck ideas and I would like to name it the Mad Scientist section ^_^. Anyway, I have lesser time to play MTG for the next 2 months so I am hoping that some people will actually try to build this deck and post comments on its performance.

The deck is basically, post-mirrodin besieged destructive force budget deck. Anyway, I think because of the price of Jace the Mindsculptor, any blue deck without it will seem like a budget deck. ^_^

The concept of the deck is actually quite simple. Play semi-control in the early game and build up mana with your artifacts and lands. Then play destructive force cleaning up the board and disabling your opponent, while you still have mana because of your artifacts. Your creatures are actually Frost titan and Wurmcoil Engine. Frost Titan is actually very good in this strategy, since post-destructive force, the opponent will need 3 mana before ha/she can get rid of the titan, at that time, the game is actually over. The Wurmcoil Engine gives you options for racing with early game pressure. But the engine can usually be easier to cast because of its mana cost (colorless mana can come from your everflowing chalices).

Anyway, here is the list for my Red Blue (U/R, UR, RU or what ever you may call it) Post-MBS Destructive Force Deck.

Creatures:
2 Frost Titan
2 Wurmcoil Engine
3 Sea Gate Oracle

Instants:
4 Lightning Bolt
4 Mana Leak
3 Spell Pierce
2 Into the Roil

Sorceries:
4 Preordain
2 Pyroclasm
3 Destructive Force

Artifacts:
4 Everflowing Chalice
3 Sphere of the Suns

Lands:
4 Scalding Tarn
3 Terramorphic Expanse
3 Tectonic Edge
8 Islands
6 Mountains

Sideboard:
4 Spreading Seas
1 Ratchet Bomb
1 Pyroclasm
3 Jace Beleren
2 Flashfreeze
2 Brittle Effigy
2 Negate

Notes: You can actually user Slagstorm to replace Pyroclasm. Or run a combination of Slagstorms and Pyroclasm.

February 2011 FNM Card - Spellstutter Sprite

For people who played during the Lorwyn period, the power level of this faerie for a common is quite troublesome. Many of our precious spells were countered because of this creature. A reprint of this card in February's FNM is a great addition to extended players and a great addition to your collection since , personally, I think that the art looks great.

I would be seriously playing serious FNM this coming February to get myself a playset of these (eventhough I have a playset of the original card) hehe

here it is, Februay 2011's friday night magic foil card is Spellstutter Sprite!

January 2011 FNM Card - Everflowing Chalice

Wow! this is a great FNM card since everflowing chalice shows a great potential in standard. An artifact that gives an additional mana early game and also not useless during late game gives much power and advantage for control decks. Also, with the artifact theme of Scars of Mirrodin block and the coming of Tezzeret, Slave of Bolas in Besieged will definitely make this card useful for the remainder of its standard time.

So here it is again, January 2011's Friday night magic foil card is Everflowing Chalice.

U/R Control - A comeback

After about a month absence from MTG, I plan to go competitive again as part of my New Year's resolution. So, for this week's FNM I plan to bring the Red-Blue Control. After playtesting it many times, I think it is a viable deck for fnm but we'll see as I will post its FNM performance after the FNM.

The deck basically controls the board at the early game and tends to finish off with titans. The trinket mage also fetches up utility artifacts in cases you need an answer. Anyway, the decklist is as follows:

Lands:
4 Scalding Tarn
3 Terramorphic Expanse
3 Tectonic Edge
9 Island
6 Mountain

Creatures:
2 Frost Titan
1 Inferno Titan
2 Cunning Sparkmage
3 Trinket Mage

Sorceries:
4 Preordain
2 Pyroclasm

Instants:
4 Mana Leak
2 Stoic Rebuttal
1 Deprive
4 Lightning bolt
1 Into the Roil

Artifacts:
2 Everflowing Chalice
1 Chimeric mass
2 Basilisk Collar

Planeswalkers:
3 Jace Beleren
1 Koth of the Hammer

Sideboard:
4 Spreading Seas
2 Flash freeze
3 Spell Pierce
2 Wurmcoil Engine
2 Ratchet Bomb
1 Nihil Spellbomb
1 Pyroclasm
