Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

Woah! I just got home from watching the movie Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time with my family. I think it was so good and since all of us appreciated the movie, we watched it twice! hehehe I honestly think it was a great movie and honestly, having played the earliest versions of the Video game Prince of Persia, I think the movie team did a great job of making the video game into a movie. I think it had a great story, a great LOVE story ^_^, great effects, great scenes - absolutely great for me. I think I will be adding this movie to my all-time favorite movie list. I began thinking how great it is to have someone destined to be with you that whatever happens, not even time can stop the both of you from being together.

Alright, to give a summary for the story, it started with Dastan (Jake Gyllenhaal) being a child living on the streets until the Persian King adopted him due to his courage and good heart. Fifteen years after that fateful event, Dastan is now a Prince of Persia. Together with his two brothers Tus (Richard Coyle), Garsiv (Toby Kebbell) and their uncle Nizam (Ben Kingsley), the Persians plan on attacking the holy city of Alamut in the belief that the city is supplying the enemies of Persia with weapons. The Persians overrun the city and Dustan gets a peculiar dagger from one of his fights during the attack. However though, the Persians are hard-pressed to find the hidden weapons they are looking for. The King is not happy with the haphazard decision of his son and heir Tus and deem him still unfit for the throne. The next day, the King is presented with a holy robe by Dastan. Unfortunately, the robe is poisoned and the King dies. Dastan is accused of assassinating the King and he must now find out who framed him up. As a rogue prince, he has to prove his innocence with the reluctant help of conquered princess Tamina (Gemma Arterton) and a magic dagger that eventually the two will have to protect from the dark forces. The dagger is a gift from the gods that can reverse time – using the Sands of Time that will allow its possessor to rule the world. With the dagger falling into the hands of Nizam, Tamina, also being the guardian of the dagger, sacrifices herself so that Dastan can stop Nizam from destroying the world and activates the dagger while attached to the container of the Sands of time. The Sandglass slowly cracks and the sandstorm is shown destroying Alamut. Dastan is then able to use the Dagger and turn back the time as the Sandglass breaks, ending up at the point when he first held the Dagger during the siege of Alamut. Dastan uses his knowledge to reveal Nizam's evil plan to his brothers, gaining their acceptance by revealing what Tus told him about the meeting with their father prior to the attack. Exposed, Nizam attempts to kill Dastan, but ends up stabbed and killed by Tus, using his blade. After apologizing for the ransacking of her city, Tus suggests that perhaps Tamina should become Dastan's wife as a sign of good will. The Prince returns the Dagger of Time to her as a gift and she looks at him surprised. The two of them are next shown talking to each other and Tamina expressing her surprise about Dastan's sudden change in behavior and hinting that he may have discovered something to which he replies that they are in control of their own destiny.

As a side note, I really think Gemma Arterton looked very beautiful in this movie. Definitely captured my heart - again - doing it for the 1st time in the movie Clash of the Titans. She's really beautiful and I think she did a great job playing her character. ^_^

  1. I think Prince of Persia is better than Clash of the Titans in terms of the story's transition. Prince of Persia is not lagging in terms of the story. Clash of the Titans just has nice effects though.
